A poetry slam is a competition between poets performing original work judged by members of the audience. This poetry slam is organized by Jacob Winterstein, Kai Davis and Jasmine Combs.
Come perform, watch or judge.
**Poets wishing to compete should arrive at 8:30 to put their names in the hat. For this month all poets who put their name in the hat pay $5. At 9:00pm poets names will be picked out of the hat. Some poets will be pre-selected.**

MAHOGANY L. BROWNE
Mahogany Browne is a Cave Canem, Poets House & Serenbe Focus alum, author of several books including Redbone (nominated for NAACP Outstanding Literary Works), Dear Twitter: Love Letters Hashed Out On-line, recommended by Small Press Distribution & About.com Best Poetry Books of 2010. Mahogany is the author of illustrated book Black Girl Magic (Roaring Press/Macmillan) & co-editor of forthcoming anthology The Break Beat Poets: Black Girl Magic. She is an Urban Word NYC Artistic Director (as seen on HBOs Brave New Voices), founder of Women Writers of Color Reading Room, Programming for BLM@Pratt and facilitates performance poetry and writing workshops throughout the country. Browne is also the publisher of Penmanship Books, the Nuyorican Poets Café Friday Night Slam curator and recent graduate from Pratt Institute MFA Writing & Activism program.
