PHOENIX
Writer: Penny Jackson Director: Melissa Skirboll Actor: Maureen Van Treese
Susan, an American woman in Japan, changes careers when she realizes she cant make enough money as an English teacher. She becomes The Super American, and a star in a popular sex simulated show in Hiroshima. Her performances are bearable because her fellow performer, a gay black South African man, is a supportive friend. Susan can survive this life until she meets Michel, a man who wants to marry her. Will Michel still love her when he discovers the truth about her profession? And there is Hiroshima itself, a city that will forever be associated with the American atomic bomb.

This performance will include six plays: "Love me til I'm safely gathered in," "Relations," "Bitter Sweet," "PHOENIX," "Guardian," and "Chance's Gambit."

Emerging Artists returns with their one-of-a-kind festival. Visit the theater any evening during this three-week event, and you'll find yourself transported in a number of surprising ways: by a single performer embodying a whole host of characters; by a more experimental theater piece "done differently" that challenges and delights; by a cozy two-person show exploring relationships; or perhaps by a bouncy new musical that will have you humming. Emerging Artists has always been about new works, new talents, new voices. That's never been more evident than now.
NO REFUNDS will be granted.
