STONES (AVANIM) presented by AJC SEATTLE JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL 2006
STONES (AVANIM) w/A Shabbos Mother (short) 8:30 PM
Director: Raphael Nadjari Country/Year: Israel, 2004 Language: Hebrew w/subtitles Running Time: 107 min. Format: 35mm
Michale finds momentary relief from her suffocating life as a dutiful wife, mother to a young son, and employee of her father's Tel Aviv accounting firm in afternoon trysts with her lover. A sudden tragedy forces her to confront unraveling emotions. With a John Cassavetes-style emphasis on mobile camera work and intimate close-ups, French director Raphael Nadjari creates an intense portrait of female resistance to a claustrophobic, male-dominated culture that covers its own sins in a stifling cloak of familial love and religious duty. Winner of the top prize at the Geneva International Film Festival, AVANIM's Assi Levy gives a beautifully nuanced performance.
preceded by: A SHABBOS MOTHER (short) Director: Inbar Namdar Country/Year: Israel, 2005 Language: Hebrew w/subtitles Running Time: 27 min. Format: BetaSP
