Six-year-old Moonee lives in a rundown motel in Florida near Disney World. Her young mother does what she can to provide the essentials but Moonee and her friends are kids at risk. Despite this, Moonee and her pals find exuberant joy in their freedom. Bobby, the motels manager, looks out for them, intervening when things threaten to get dangerous. No magic can make the pain of their reality disappear, but this film manages both to cast a spell and tell the truth.
Post-film discussion with local screenwriter and SUNY Purchase film school faculty, J.D. Zeik.
