89-year-old legendary documentarian Agnès Varda, an inveterate risk-taker, sets out in the company of the 34-year-old French photographer and environmental artist known as JR. Their road trips through agricultural and industrial French towns find them talking to people and photographing them, but the film is much more than that. As they journey through these towns, they contemplate the passage of time and the nature of memory, the dignity of labor, and the fate of the European working class.
