Snowglobe Theatre presents an evening of two operas at Loyola Chapel.
Riders to the Sea, by Ralph Vaughan Williams
In the wind-swept, desolate Aran Islands, Maurya has lost her husband and five of her sons to the sea - now she fears the death of her youngest and last, Bartley. Maurya's daughters Cathleen and Nora do their best to care for her, but they cannot shield her from disaster. Vaughan Williams' opera is a setting of John Millington Synge's play, a classic of Irish drama.
The Medium, by GianCarlo Menotti
Spirits don't really come when the Medium calls - or do they? The self-avowed skeptic Madam Flora lived off the desperation and credulity of her customers for years...until inexplicable events began to occur. Her teen-aged daughter Monica and Toby, the mute orphan who loves her, will suffer the tragic consequences of her spiraling paranoia. A tense psychodrama with a libretto by the composer, in hauntingly poetic style.
