GRUNT [Detroit] Round 2

GRUNT is a grassroots national touring network established to support diverse artistic voices. This round of GRUNT|Detroit features work by April Sellers Dance Collective (Minneapolis), Kristi Faulkner Dance (Detroit), and AJ Sims (Detroit).

April Sellers is a nationally recognized choreographer known for her gender-bending, feminist-infused performances. ASDC will present "The Animal Corridor" - an enthralling work inspired by female icons Janis Joplin, prize fighter Ronda Rousey, and TV sportscasters. In "The Animal Corridor", this darkly humorous, post-apocalyptic world is devised to smash open expectations as we move towards a new gender utopia.

Kristi Faulkner Dance will premiere "Party of One", combining live performance and dance for camera to celebrate queerness and pose questions about the line between consent and unwitting surrender.

AJ Sims is an emerging Detroit-based dancer and choreographer. Working with local performers and youth from the Ruth Ellis Center, AJ Sims will open the show with an original work rooted in vogue movement vocabulary.
