Afro-Cuban songs of the Yoruba people has been preserved in Cuba by the Lucumí descendants, and traditionalists for hundreds of years. The origins of Yoruba culture is presently located in Nigeria, in West Africa.
Recording artist Virginia López is also a percussionist, and she will teach Afro-Cuban songs in relationship to clave patterns, drums, and bell patterns. Virginia has been teaching songs and conga drum rhythms in Portland, Oregon for several decades.
Cuban born (also raised, educated, and indoctrinated) Virginia Lopez is a Yemayá Priestess in the Lucumí tradition. Amelia Pedroso, ibbaé bayen tonú, initiated Virginia López in 1999, in Havana, Cuba.
