Songs of the Soul - Sensual and Spiritual Renaissance Voices
Renaissance and Early Baroque Vocal Music with Dance
A student of Orlando di Lasso, Lechner became known in Germany for his ability to translate into the German language the Italianate techniques of the late Renaissance and early Baroque. He sets the first two chapters of the highly sensual text of the Song of Solomon to music. Dramatic recitation will emphasize the text. In contrast, Josquins Masses on the popular French secular song LHomme Armé (The Armed Man) are considered a monument of early Renaissance counterpoint. Their complexity does not obscure their beauty and meditative character.
PERFORMERS: Crescendo Vocal Ensemble with Christine Gevert leading from the Organ, and theorbo player Hideki Yamaya. Dancers Ellen Gorman and Andrea Blacklow with members of their company Moving Arts Exchange, will perform a modern original choreography, synchronized with the music.
REPERTOIRE: Leonhard Lechner (1553-1606) - Das Hohelied Salomonis (The Song of Solomon) Josquin des Prez (c.1440/55-1521) - Missa L'Homme Armeé (The Armed Man) Super Voces Musicales and Agnus Dei from Missa Sexti Toni
The concert will be repeated on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 4 pm at Trinity Church Lime Rock, Lakeville, CT (ArmedMan18.bpt.me)
