Winter Orchard Care II
Join Cameron Denning, Finnriver orchard manager, and Judi Stewart Master Gardener, for a day of winter orchard management.
Topics include:
-Tool sharpening (bring pruners!)
-Tree pruning for optimal production
-Tree Fruit Grafting 101
Each participant can register for the whole workshop or just the Tree Fruit Grafting 101 section. We will provide each participant with 3 pieces of P2 rootstock and scionwood from cider apple trees from Finnriver Orchard. You are welcome to bring scionwood from your own orchard if it is compatible with P2 rootstock.

About the instructors:
Judi Stewart has been raising poultry and growing small and large fruit trees for more than two decades. She grafts most of her trees and is continually expanding her orchard. When Judi first came to the area, she became a Master Gardener. She was soon instrumental in restoring the Chimacum Grange and starting the beekeepers club and farmers market. After serving as president of Western Cascade Fruit Society and its local Jefferson County chapter, Judi continues to research, experiment and incorporate strategies which improve fruit yields, taste and the health of the trees. Judi will demonstrate and explain some of her favorite grafting techniques so youll be able to take home and enjoy a few new apple trees.
Cameron Denning is the orchard manager at Finnriver Farm and Orchard. Cameron began working with soil in 2003 at his fathers landscape business in Corvallis Oregon. Eight years later he found myself continually fascinated by ecosystems, and most interested in permaculture practices and urban gardens. In 2013 Cameron followed my fiancé to the Olympic Peninsula, where he was an intern at Finnriver Farm through the Washington State University F.I.E.L.D. program. He was hired the following year as the Farm Manager for the Finnriver Orchard, and am now entering his 4th season at the farm.
