*ĂN TET - A People's Kitchen dinner with Viet Unity
ĂN Tet is a pay-what-you-can community dinner celebration between The People's Kitchen and the Viet Unity. This family-style dinner will feature live music, performance, and a multi-course meal featuring indigenous Vietnamese foods to celebrate the coming of the Vietnamese New Year.

Tet, otherwise known as Tet Nguyên Đán or "Feast of the First Morning", is a Vietnamese celebration of the Lunar/Lunisolar New Year coinciding with other known cultural celebrations throughout Asia.  Tet and the Lunar New Year celebrates our ancestors, the transitions of zodiac animals, the preservation of the agricultural bounty of the last season going into the next one, and well wishes, abundance, and prosperity for others into the new year.  The act of celebrating Tet is to "ăn Tet" or "Eat Tet"/"Celebrate the New Year by eating", and the foods and dishes connected to Tet symbolize prosperity, longevity, and fortune for the new year.

In celebration of Tet, People's Kitchen will be hosting a dinner to honor the vital work of Viet Unity. VietUnity is a grassroots project committed to building a strong grassroots organization to bring Vietnamese people together with the goal of working on local issues while making the connections to a broader system, and to a larger multi-racial and multi-class movement for social justice. Viet Unity is committed to the struggle for global peace, justice, and self-determination. Through alliance building, education, organizing, and collective action we work for positive social change and against all forms and systems of oppression.

The community celebration and fundraising dinner, "Ăn Tet" is meant to re-enliven the traditional foods and foodways that have been in VietUnity's family members during this time of the Lunar New Year and celebrate ancestors who have fought colonialism and imperialism and honored land and people.

About People's Kitchen-

The People's Kitchen is a beautifully delicious community food project in downtown Oakland. The People's Kitchen is an open restaurant that couples political education and movement building with a high-end, local, organic meal that is lovingly prepared by community chefs. Each monthly People's Kitchen raises donations for local grassroots political projects and celebrates the foods of different cultures and communities in Oakland. The goal of The People's Kitchen is not only to fill our stomachs but to also nourish our souls, feed our minds, and fuel a movement.

We Invite you to pay what you can to support this food project. All proceeds will go to benefit Viet Unity.
