Yakima Symphony Chorus: Founded in 1971, the Yakima Symphony Chorus serves as a performing partner for the Yakima Symphony Orchestra on major symphonic choral works such as Beethovens 9th Symphony and on pops concerts bringing to life music from Hollywood, Broadway and more. Yakima Valley College Jazz: The Department of Music takes pride in being one of the most active programs at Yakima Valley College, providing students with performing opportunities in vocal and instrumental music as well as formal academic training. The award-winning YVC Jazz Ensemble , Salsa Band and Jazz Combos have become known throughout the Pacific Northwest region for quality.
Dan Peters: Dan Peters lives in Selah, Washington, and teaches at Yakima Valley College. His books include Down the Road The Children Go (Blue Begonia Press, 2009), In the Easement of Absent Ties (Blue Begonia Press, 1998) and The Reservoir (Blue Begonia Press, 2002). He also co-edited the anthology Weathered Pages: The Poetry Pole (Blue Begonia Press, 2005). Dan is also an active participant of Yakima Coffeehouse Poets.
Avion: A Latino Pop band, based in the state of WA. Winners of Album of the Year at the 2016 and 2017 Latin Music Awards, Univision Seattle event. Nominated for Best Pop / Rock Song, Best Music Video and Best Composer. Special guests at the 17th Latin Grammys Awards in Las Vegas, NV 2016. Available for concerts and public events. Our first album was released on April 1st, 2015 under the same title. The second album under the title Sal y Tequila was released on May 18, 2017. Both albums are available in all digital formats. Naomi Wachira: Lauded in 2013 as Best Folk Singer in Seattle, Naomi Wachira is an artist of formidable talent and heart. Seattle Music Insider raves her performances as "marked by her strong stage presence, storytelling and enduring smile." Wachira's voice is a melding of rich sources from her childhood in Kenya, her Northwest home, and such American inspirations as Tracy Chapman and South African activist Miriam Makeba. Her music & songwriting brings together harmonies that speak across continents and cultures.
During the pre-show reception, you will dine on Latin-inspired hors doeuvres as you browse through the gallery filled with works by local artists and Heritage University students. It is a jubilee that celebrates the best that the Yakima Valley has to offer.
