The Robert Ferguson Observatory is offering a limited-ticket event called "What's Up?" on Thursday, August 9 at 8:00PM at the observatory. Come join us! You'll receive a tour of the observatory, a classroom talk about prominent objects that are viewable that night, followed by telescope observing on RFO's three large telescopes: an 8 inch refractor, a 20 inch astrophotography telescope, and a large 40 inch reflecting telescope.
"What's Up?" offers an intimate experience at the observatory. You will have plenty of observing time at the telescopes and knowledgeable docents on hand to answer your questions.
The night's showcase? Saturn will dominate this evening's viewing. Few forget their first glimpse of the ringed jewel! But, there are plenty of other objects to talk about and see: The Summer Triangle, the Ring, Trifid and Veil Nebulae. For those willing to stay late, Mars, near opposition (when it's at its biggest and brightest), will climb into view around midnight.
The presentation starts promptly at the time shown. Please consider your travel time before purchasing tickets.
Tickets are limited to 40 guests: $15.00 per adult and $10.00 for seniors (62+) and youth under 18.
The observatory is a 501(3)(c) institution, and all proceeds from this event go towards maintaining its many public education programs.
