Blasted by Sarah Kane
Sarah Kane's first full-length play, Blasted, opened at the Royal Court Theatre in London in 1995. It became the cause célèbre of the theatrical year, making front-page headlines, selling out houses and outraging critics.
Violent, unrelenting, and brutal conflict manifests both in and outside of a small hotel room where three individuals grapple with their own cruelties, fears, desires, and basest instincts. The initial critical response to Kane's first play Blasted at the Royal Court Theatre in London ranged from laudatory to morally condemning but there was unanimous agreement that a singularly original form of theatre had been born. Today, Blasted continues to shake the nerves and sensibilities of its audiences with its savagery as well as its compassion for the lowest depths of human desperation, pain, and ultimate redemption.
For mature audiences only.
