Club E: How business owners can measure and mitigate growing cyber risk
How business owners can measure and mitigate growing cyber risk

An estimated 50-60 percent of small businesses fold within 6 months after a serious cyber-attack (National Cyber Security Alliance, 2017). The average cost of even a small successful cyber-attack on a small business is around $84-155k or more (Symantec, 2017).

It is predicted that a different business will fall victim to a ransomware attack every 14 seconds in 2019. An estimated $5 billion was paid out by organizations in 2017 from ransomware attacks. Despite all this, 44% of organizations have not implemented any kind of security software that blocks ransomware. An Internet Security Threat Report analysis of ransomware code deployed in 2017
determined that the average ransom demanded in a ransomware attack is $544 per infected user (Symantec, 2017.)

As businesses grow there is huge demand to keep up with customers and business operations. This growth and operational complexity increases cyber risk and thus data and security compliance needs. This panel with address some likely cyber challenges growing business face and how to mitigate them.
