Join us for a night of indie folk rock at The Big Dipper featuring The South Hill, Chris Molitor, and The Lunar Year. Doors 7/show 7:30. $8 in advance, $10 at the door.
Spokanes own The South Hill has quickly gained a buzz since forming two years ago and releasing their debut album last summer. After living all over the country and being a part of a number of musical projects, The South Hill's five members eventually landed in Spokane, WA, where the band set down roots and started making indie rock in 2015. Smooth and captivating vocals and harmonies layered on melodic guitar forms the basis of their sound, rounded out by drums, cello, bass, and keys. The story-telling poetry of their lyrics is melded with a variety of instrumental influences, from blues to folk.
Chris Molitor is a recent transplant from LA, where he built up quite a following as a folk artist. He recently won The Bartlett Award for Best Singer-Songwriter and has quickly made a name for himself around Spokane. Honest lyrics and upbeat folk style stems from the simplicity of a Midwestern upbringing and a love for the adventurous open road. Chris Molitor is a story teller - using melody and rhyme to bring the listener into beautiful moments where hopes and fears collide.
The Lunar Year is joining the lineup as part of their west coast tour. An indie folk band based out of Philadelphia, PA, the group is led by front woman and writer Katie Burke. Their music swirls with emotion, filled with ethereal, veracious and often celestial sounds, sustained by Burkes powerful and captivating vocals.
