This course is a follow-up to a course about short story masterpieces thatthis instructortaught last November. You will be reading and discussing new short stories found inthe same text book we used then:The Art of the Short Story, edited by Dana Gioia and R. S. Gwynn.
You will be exposed to the many stories that we did not have time enough to readin our first class. We will focus our attention on each new storys main character, asking, how does the author understand and feel toward her/his main character? we will be determining that by defining the main characters conflict and noting how the character changes, if at all, in resolving the conflict.
