Curated and hosted by Gabriela Santiago

In a time when the political environment seeks to erase our most marginalized citizens, writer Gabriela Santiago invites artists on the edge of culture to imagine and claim the future through science fiction.

Queen Drea, recently named a Minnesota Emerging Composer Awardee from the American Composers Forum, uses poetry, electronica, and movement to navigate a dystopian future where, due to AmeriKKKa's school to prison pipeline and death by police, there are no black men. Xicanx Futurism meets Hip Hop in SEE MORE PERSPECTIVEs vignettes told from different points of view about parallel characters existing in an alternative cartoon universe. Poet Wolf Valencia combines storytelling and verse in an Afrofuturist witchcraft parable. In a powerful character monologue, Stephani Maari Booker plays Zora, implanted with nanobots to record her every move in a future where mass incarceration has been replaced by mass surveillance. Multidisciplinary performer Khary Jackson presents an excerpt of his superhero novel series set after a nuclear war in 2084 along with a futuristic hip hop dance piece. Cicada LAmour of the House of Larva Drag Co-Operative stages a drag act using lip synch, movement, and performance art, depicting the last dispatch from a group of astro-queers fleeing a conquered earth to the mysterious planet O-Face 9.
