For the second year, Urban Sketchers Seattle is taking part in 10x10, the worldwide initiative to offer educational workshops wherever sketchers live. Launched in celebration of Urban Sketchers' 10th anniversary in 2017, the program brings a variety of courses on urban sketching techniques taught by talented local instructors in their home cities.
What is urban sketching? Unlike making art in a studio, urban sketching is about capturing life, wherever that life is -- on the sidewalk, in our neighborhood parks, in cafes, or in other public places. Instead of drawing from photos or our minds, we sketch from direct observation. The manifesto we follow encourages telling the stories of our surroundings through our drawings and sharing them online.
USk Seattle is pleased to offer the following workshops during Spring/Summer 2018. All workshops are on Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration begins Sunday, March 4, 2018, 9 a.m. (Online registration is hosted by Brown Paper Tickets, a third-party event management website.)
Meet the instructors, see their sketchbooks, and learn about the workshops before registering. This event is free, but registration is required. The kickoff will be followed by an unhosted, informal drink & draw at a nearby venue, which is another opportunity to talk with instructors who attend this optional event.
Program Goals 1. Improve your skills by drawing from life, on location. 2. Learn how to compose and design your sketch on the page. 3. Experience the advantages of group learning and sharing. 4. Become confident sketching on location so that you can continue sharing stories from your city, one drawing at a time.
