March 22-25, 2018
The 4th Annual NWFFest is almost here and we are ready to celebrate the rapid consciousness raising we are witnessing in our society. It has been quite a year for women!
NWFFest 2018 promises to be an event to remember. Here are some highlights:
This year's panel event takes on the explosive issue rolling through Hollywood and beyond. Raising Our Voices: Combating Sexual Harassment in the Film Industry, will be moderated by UNLV Film Department Chair Dr. Heather Addison, and will include filmmakers Rebecca Thomas, Alexis Krasilovsky and actress Susan Anton.
We are delighted to welcome featured guest filmmaker, Stephanie Rothman, feminist icon of the "exploitation genre" of the 1970's. During a time when there were virtually no other women behind the camera, Stephanie made sexy films with broad appeal, yet she still managed to champion a progressive agenda. Her work is a testament to the complicated times and changing culture of the era. A retrospective screening of "The Student Nurses" will be followed by a conversation with this pioneering director as well as a Q&A session, moderated by Professor Shirley Johnston of CSN.
We are also proud to announce our first ever Nevada Woman of Achievement recipient, Emmy-nominated costume designer, Diana Eden! KNPRs Carrie Kaufman will sit down with Diana on Thursday for an intriguing conversation about her thirty years in Hollywood, designing fourteen prime-time TV series, sixteen pilots, a plethora of movies for TV and numerous feature films.
As always, a unique selection of films of all genres from around the globe will be screened throughout the festival. Local filmmakers, including UNLV, NSC and CSN students, will be highlighted. Our Filmmakers Welcome Reception Friday evening will introduce our visitors to our creative local community.
On Sunday we are pleased to host a special screening of "Dolores," Peter Bratts portrait of legendary civil rights activist Dolores Huerta - one of the most defiant feminists of the twentieth century. This highly-awarded documentary is a Carlos Santana Production for PBSs Independent Lens.
NWFFest concludes with the 4th Annual Femmy Awards, a ceremony honoring our most outstanding filmmakers. Awards will include the Spirit of Activism, Best Female Protagonist, as well as student filmmaker, fiction and documentary awards.
Please find a complete schedule of events and screenings on our website: http://www.nwffest.com/
Please remember to join the conversation on social media. Thank you and we'll see you soon!
