Stephen and Brian Butler were first discovered by Hilly Kristal of NYCs original punk club, CBGBs and signed to Columbia Records and then reborn as Smash Palace and moved to Epic Records. The band released a self titled album that enjoyed MTV rotation and high profile tours. Smash Palace was on hiatus during the 90s as the Butler brothers went on to staff song writing positions at EMI and BMG. The band reformed and Art Herman of Zip Records signed the band after seeing their performance at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.
a swath of British Invasion verve, an effortless blend moving with a catchy rock swagger thats infectious enough to require Cipro. Chris Parker, Philadelphia Weekly
Smash Palace, a powerpop/ rock band with a 28 year pedigree still has the spirit and exuberance necessary for this tough to pull off style. Nice story in persistence too. Ken Barnes, USA Today
The lions share of the credit goes to the Butler brothers razor sharp songwriting skills, particularly their ability to meld soaring pop melodies to clever (yet never cloying) lyrics. Rick Schadelbauer, Amplifier Magazine
