About
Maxi Cohens Joe and Maxi represents the directors attempt to get to know her emotionally elusive father following her mothers death. Filming in a vérité style, Cohen pursues Joe in conversations that inevitably transform into arguments, before the film itself takes on a different tone once Joe is diagnosed with cancer. One of the first feature-length, autobiographical family films produced in the nonfiction field, Joe and Maxi remains bracing viewing.
