WEREWOLF - ENCORE SCREENING
Recently awarded the prestigious "Rogers Best Canadian Film Award" by the Toronto Film Critics Association, locally made feature film "Werewolf" premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival and has earned critical praise from The New Yorker, The Globe and Mail, and The Hollywood Reporter.

"Werewolf" is local filmmaker Ashley McKenzie's first feature length film and was shot in Sydney, New Waterford, Whitney Pier, and Glace Bay with an entirely Cape Breton cast and an almost entirely local crew including cinematographer Scott Moore, composer Youth Haunts, and producer Nelson MacDonald.

"Werewolf" tells the story of Blaise and Nessa, two marginalized methadone users in a small town. Each summer day, they push their rusty lawnmower from door-to-door pleading to cut grass in exchange for drug cash. Nessa wants to leave her life in Cape Breton, while Blaise lingers on the verge of crashing altogether. The couple, bound by their relationship, watch their dreams of escaping begin to drown.

All proceeds from this screening will go to the Ally Centre of Cape Breton.

"McKenzie fuses a documentary-like observational precision with a creative imagination that endows her characters struggles with a quietly monumental grandeur."
                                The New Yorker

"This is a raw, intense movie circling on despair, hopelessness and inevitable dead ends. It is about the dark. But in plumbing the pitch black, Werewolf offers the distinct hope of a brighter future for Canadian cinema."
                               The Globe and Mail

"Those of us who see Canada as an ideal refuge for the problems currently plaguing America should check out Werewolf, a stark, disquieting portrait of a pair of recovering drug addicts trying to scrape by in the suburban wilderness of Cape Breton Island."
                                The Hollywood Reporter
