Storytelling Sunday: The Magician & the Hungry Spirit
In a world ravaged by greed and tyranny, where the richest and most devious men seek to eek every last drip of life from the poor to increase their power there can be no no escape. Except maybe on Storytelling Sunday, when the infamous and extraordinary TUUP will be sharing a thrilling tale about a world ravaged by greed and... Ah, yes there is no escape!
For millennia it seems humanity has been trapped in an endless cycle of greed and tyranny. Perhaps the cycle is speeding up? Perhaps it is time we broke the cycle! Come and take time out as we uncontrollably spin into February, and another tale is spun by another master storyteller - this time in the form of The Unorthodox, Unprecedented Preacher (TUUP) as he takes us on a remarkable journey through "...magnificent performance storytelling!"
About TUUP
TUUP was born in West London of Guyanese parents. In the early 80s, TUUP, an aspiring artist, (African Drummer and Performance Poet) was recognised by a small Guyanese publishing house, run by Jessica & Eric Huntley, called Bogle LOuverture Press, there he meet Keith Waithe, Marc Mathews, Johnny Agard, Aurbry Briant and many more creative and supportive artists. TUUP joined The West London Storytelling Unit, run by Ben Haggarty and Georgiana, a challenging Innovative Arts group looking at Performance Storytelling for Adults. While working with this group enabled TUUP to hone the craft of a storyteller. In the mid 80s, TUUP formed a storytelling group with Flora Devi, called Tellers of Time" (Indian tales & Dance & African-Caribbean tales & rhythms). TUUP has been retelling Traditional storys for over 30 years.
"TUUP is recognised as one of the most inspiring inspirational storytellers, from the African-Caribbean community, as well as the wider International Storytelling community. TUUP embodies the African oral Tradition of the Grio". - Keith Waithe
