Mother Courage and Her Children
Bertolt Brecht is considered the father of theatre for social justice. Writing in war-torn Germany in the 1930s, he believed theatre should not be an escape from reality, but rather should make people think about the reality they live in and leave a show wanting to change their society. Brecht's "Mother Courage and her Children" is a perfect example of tackling hard issues that society often shies away from. How does war affect our decision-making? Our values and actions? Our faith? What is religion's role in a war-torn country? How do women survive when men are destroying their world? These are the questions Brecht's play asks and hopes audiences will leave discussing. Set during the 30-years-war, Mother Courage has three children she must protect from the impact of the war, but also must face the reality that she ultimately has no control over her children's decisions or the game of war. Still, she must survive. She must go on. Black Box Format, Limited Seating, Not recommended for children under 12.
