Sokolow Ensemble 2018 Season
It has been an exciting year for Sokolow Theatre Dance Ensemble. Samantha Geracht has taken over as artistic director, veteran company members are directing, coaching and teaching Ms. Sokolows works, and the company is now a dedicated cast of 14 dancers. We are also joined this season by guest artists Clarence Brooks, Jennifer Conley and David Glista.
Too many of Ms. Sokolows dances have virtually disappeared and we are once again researching fuzzy film footage for dances that ought to be carefully reconstructed. This year we will present Ms. Sokolows Moods for the first time since 1975. The dance is a gem, and we look forward to sharing it with you. All of these theatre/dance works transport the audience through the breadth and depth of the human experience and this season March 8-11 2018 promises to reveal the timeless truths of Ms. Sokolows dances.
Dreams driven by Annas nightmares of the Holocaust, this masterpiece penetrates the most terrifying realms of human experience, demanding that we see the humanity of persecutions victims.
Moods this long-lost work, choreographed in 1975 to Gyorgyi Ligetis 10 Pieces for Wind Quintet, is a journey through inner states from serene to violent, from exuberant to crushed, from struggle to acceptancea quest into darkness in order to find the light.
Preludes based in social dance of the 30s, to music by George Gershwin, this work recalls the simple elegance and restrained sensuality of that time.
We will be joined by guest artists Jennifer Conley, who will perform Anna Sokolows Poem, and Clarence Brooks, who will perform in Dreams and in Sweet in the Morning, choreographed by Leni Wylliams.
