Columbus 2020: The Future of Columbus
As Columbus is predicted to double its population by 2050, a significant proportion will occur as densification of established urban areas. Over the past two decades Columbus has witnessed an unprecedented transformation, outstripping all other major cities in the Midwest with the redevelopment of its urban core. In 2010, hundreds of community and business leaders from across the Columbus region came together to collaborate on ways to develop a growth strategy to ensure economic vitality. Columbus 2020 set aggressive goals to achieve by the year 2020: add 150,000 net new jobs; add $8 billion in capital investment, increase per capita income by 30 percent and be recognized as a national leader in economic development. Architects play a major role in the development of Columbus.
