Opera Maine presents THREE DECEMBERS by Jake Heggie
Opera Maine, formerly PORTopera returns Friday, July 13, for an extraordinary night of music at Deertrees Theatre! Originally built as an opera house in 1936 with the best acoustics outside of New York, as well as, to the specs of the Metropolitan Opera House, Deertrees remains one of the most enchanting place to see and listen to opera in Maine.
THREE DECEMBERS (2008) is a 90-minute opera in one act by composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer, based on Terrence McNallys original script Some Christmas Letters.
THREE DECEMBERS is an emotionally charged, and critically acclaimed, chamber opera by one of Americas leading operatic composers, Jake Heggie. The opera explores the emotional shrapnel, secrets and hard truths that take place over three decades in the lives of a Broadway diva and her adult son and daughter. Reason Bryce-Davis will be performing the role of Madeline, Yazid Gray will be performing the role of Charlie, and Symone Harcum will be performing the role of Bea.
Accentuated by Heggies sophisticated and accessible music, THREE DECEMBERS will appeal to both lovers of musical theatre and opera. The production premiered at Houston Grand Opera in 2008 with famed soprano Frederica von Stade in the lead role and has since been produced all over the country by opera companies both large and small. OperaMaines production is the New England premiere.
