African American Tour
An entertaining 1.5 hour ride through the cemetery on air conditioned motors coaches taking a look at the notable African Americans buried in Forest Lawn who made significant contributions to the city of Buffalo and to the nation. The tour is a collaboration with the Afro-American Historical Association of the Niagara Frontier, Inc. and features notables such as Mary Burnett Talbert, who served as president of the National Association of Colored Women's Clubs and received the coveted Springarn Medal from the NAACP; and Rev. J. Edward Nash, pastor of the historic Michigan Avenue Baptist Church for 61 years; and community leader, Dan Montgomery, legendary proprietor of Dan Montgomery's Restaurant (night club); Ouida and Claude Clapp, pioneer educators in the Buffalo Public Schools; Cora P. Maloney, the first African American woman elected to the Buffalo Common Council; and many, many more. AAHANF Board members Sharon Holley, Sonia Walker, Madeline Scott, Dr. Felix Armfield and Dr. Barbara Nevergold will act as tour guides.
