No prior knowledge of drumming or musical skill is necessary. Join master drummer Ibrahima (Ibou) N'gom in this workshop that provides a wonderful way to explore music, culture and promote togetherness. Drummers will learn simple rhythms and progress to more complex notes and beats. Bring your drum or borrow one of ours. This unique cultural and recreational experience is not one to miss!
Dance workshop (Ages 13 and up) 2:15 pm- 3:45pm ($20 per person) This workshop is appropriate for all levels. Come join Julia Chigamba to experience the beauty of traditional African dance and move to the beat of live African drumming. It's a great work out! Dancers will complete the workshop in three separate phases. The first phase will include a thorough warm up followed by the second phase which will energize the mind and body while participants learn choreographed African dance movements. The final phase includes calming to cool down the body. Note: Dancers will be barefoot, wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement.
Founded in 2011, we are a nonprofit charitable organization whose aim is to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of African Culture by welcoming members of the community to participate in fun-filled activities while learning about some of the things that make African culture so unique. Cheza Nami believes in a play-based, experiential approach to education and teaches African culture, through dance, play and movement. We work with local members of the community who have a deep passion and commitment for learning or sharing about African culture. At Cheza Nami we envision a world in which all associate with and celebrate African Culture.
