Start Your Garden from Seed, Workshop with Nan Sterman, March 3, 2013
Seeds are magical pieces of dried out "wood" that, when watered, suddenly come alive to make round purple eggplants, sweet red tomatoes, even savory basil.
Starting from seed allows gardeners to try varieties nurseries just don't sell.
This workshop focuses on seed starting basics. We cover how to read seed packages and which seeds to start in which seasons. We talk about the best containers for starting seeds (we use the exclusive, reusable Rootrainer Growing System) and the best seed starting soils, too.
Then, we literally dig in and get planting.
We cover everything a hoping-for-green-thumb needs to raise a summer full of vegetables, fruits, and herbs, including seed starting secrets Nan's developed from years of starting her own garden from seed and testing seeds for Organic Gardening Magazine.
For the price of a trip to the supermarket, you'll go home with hundreds of dollars worth of seeded plants that will produce several hundred dollars more worth of vegetables. You'll also gain the knowledge to produce that same value every year.
PLEASE NOTE: This small, hands-on workshop is limited to 20 people only. Please reserve your spot before all the spaces fill.
