Benefest 2013!
Subterranean Arthouse's 4th Anniversary benefit!
Come celebrate and support Berkeley's premiere non-profit, all volunteer-run, community art space!
MARCH 2nd 6-11pm Sliding scale $20-100
This March 2nd, the Subterranean will mark its fourth anniversary with a "Benefest" night of music, visual art, and silent auction showcasing a collection of exciting, emergent Bay Area musicians.
The Subterranean Arthouse, located at 2179 Bancroft near Shattuck, was founded in 2009 by Claire Duplantier and Nicole Rodriguez. The vision was to create a venue that could support new and seasoned artists from many fields a place where audiences could enjoy world music and contemporary dance as much as they could revel in fine art shows and comedy sketch groups. Having hosted over 400 performances, including internationally recognized artists such as the Tiptons, Hiroko Tamino, Stephen Kent, and Veretski Pass, the venue has excelled through its growing bass of dedicated volunteers and the quality of its intimate performance experience. The March 2nd Benefest will elevate this tradition. The celebration includes popular local performers from a range of traditions and genres including Amber Gougis, Cradle Duende, Tom Lattanand Trio, and rocking latin-world band Candelaria.
The visual art show will showcase the works of local artists Benjamin Ayers, Bijay Pokhrel, Joanna Ruckman, Chadwick Heath Moore, and Teddy Milder.
The benefit will include a silent auction highlighting gifts and services from a vibrant range of East Bay businesses.
