Brasarte in partnership with Dance Mission presents this unique two-night performing arts festival celebrating the spirit of Yemanjá, the Yoruba diety that honors the ancient, essential, and beautiful nature of water. Inspired by the original Yemanjá Festival celebrated in Bahia, Brazil, this year's Yemanjá Arts Festival will bring together celebrated artists and dancers from across the Bay Area, Brazil, and Haiti. interpreters of traditional and modern art forms from the African diaspora (Brazil, the Caribbean, and the United States) that pay homage to Yemanjá/Iemanjá/Yemoja/Yemayá through their respective folkloric and spiritual traditions.
Artistic Director: Conceição Damasceno
Starring Nildinha Fonseca (veteran Principal dancer & choreographer Bale Folclorico da Bahia, director Encontro dos Artistas) and Elisio Pitta (director Aluja Dance Company, commissioned choreographer Lincoln Arts Association, National Endowment for the Arts). Introducing up and coming Brazilian percussionist, Caio Fonseca.
With special guest Laure Fleurentin and ]=Mestre Cafu, Professor Chipa, Professor Cacador, Professor Sereno, Monitor Lobo & The Damasceno Dance Collective, Odòìyá Women's Chorus, Curumins Youth Collective, Agua Doce Dance, Marcos Rodrigues, Wagner Santos, and Weslei Guimaraes.
