And Thereafter is a heart-wrenching documentary about the devastating effects of the Korean War on one elderly Korean American woman. Seventy-six-year-old Young-Ja Wike is one of the 10,000 Korean women who married American G.I.s. after the war. For them marriage was the only escape from the crushing poverty of post-war Korea. While she tends to her pepper farm in her backyard that supports her husband and three grown children, she gradually retells the secrets of her past during and after the war that eventually brought her across an ocean and into another world. Political history is intermingled with personal memories in this poignant portrait of one woman's courage and resolution to survive.
-Serenity Joo

-Vancouver International Film Festival 2004
