Behind the Scenes with SFDanceworks: Design
Join SFDanceworks in our first salon style evening with a panel discussion and reception featuring SFDW artists and collaborators. In the intimate setting of a private residence located in downtown San Francisco, artistic director James Sofranko will take you behind the scenes with lighting designer Jim French and choreographers Danielle Rowe and Dana Genshaft. Learn how a new work is designed and created and how all the elements come together to produce a memorable work of art. The artists welcome and encourage you to be part of the conversation during this Q&A salon.
Lighting designer Jim French designed SFDW Season Two and is currently the lighting supervisor for San Francisco Ballet. He has worked with Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Joe Goode, Twyla Tharp, Ballet San Jose, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, among others.
Danielle Rowe is originally from Australia, and has performed with The Australian Ballet, Houston Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater, and SFDW. As a choreographer, she has worked with SFDW, Grand Rapids Ballet, Diablo Ballet, and Berkeley Ballet Theater. Her work "For Pixie" was seen in Season Two, and she is creating a world premiere for Season Three.
Dana Genshaft was born in Moscow, Russia, and trained at the Kirov Academy of Ballet, School of American Ballet, and Paris Opéra Ballet School. She joined San Francisco Ballet in 2000, and remained there as a soloist until 2015. She choreographed the 2013 music video "Say When" and "Portrait" for SFDW's Inaugural Season.
All proceeds from the evening will directly benefit SFDanceworks Season Three, June 8-10 at the Cowell Theater, San Francisco.
Space is limited to the first 30 ticket buyers.
