Edward Abbey - A Celebration
Saturday, January 27th, 6:30 pm, at the HUB in Sedona AZ, there will be a celebration of the birthday of author and environmental activist Ed Abbey. Several of Sedonas most notable voices will lend their talents so that the words of Edward Abbey can be heard once again. Abbeys works, both fiction and essays concern themselves with preserving Americas wilderness and bolstering individual liberties.
The show will also honor local writer and activist James Bishop Jr - author of the Edward Abbey bio 'Epitaph for a Desert Anarchist', and share a tribute for long time Jerome resident and fellow environmental activist Katie Lee, who recently passed over. Inducted into the Arizona Entertainer Hall of Fame for her singing and songwriting Katie Lee was a friend of Ed Abbeys. The two of them were united in their mutual hatred of Glen Canyon Dam and defense of the earth in general.
Producers Wendy Harford and Gary Every felt that the current political and environmental climate make Ed Abbeys words as important and prescient as they have ever been. Organizing this show, they hoped that hearing the words of Edward Abbey would once again inspire people to action and passionate defense of wilderness. John Soderberg - Sedona Sculptor - as Edward Abbey, Kate Hawks - Red Earth Theater - as Katie Lee, and Candace Gallagher - singer and friend of Katie Lee; will join Gary, Wendy and Jim Bishop on stage.
After the show, a red canyon cake will be served during what we hope will be an inspired and spirited discussion about how to create and sustain a better world.
