Event
MAX RAABE IN ISRAEL - Minnesota Premiere!
Sunday, March 10 at 2pm
This event was made possible with the support from the Howard B. and Ruth F. Brin Jewish Arts and Endowment Fund, a designated fund of the Jewish Community Foundation and the Minneapolis Jewish Federation.
Part concert, part film, part travelogue, Max Raabe in Israel stands out for its honest and open approach to a subject that is still so delicate. In concert, Max Raabe's impeccable voice takes his audience on a nostalgic trip back to the Berlin of the 1920s and early 30s, with songs made famous by Marlene Dietrich, the Comedian Harmonists, the Andrew Sisters, and Irving Berlin. The lyrics to these songs were written almost exclusively by Jews, many of whom did not survive the War. In 2010, when the documentary is filmed, the orchestra is making its first tour to Israel. Some of the most notable moments in the film are the encounters with Berlin-born Israelis, who recall the Weimar-era songs, and these musicians.
