After Jack, Sarah White, and catherine the great at The Spot on Kirk
Join us Saturday, March 3rd for After Jack, Sarah White, and catherine the great at The Spot on Kirk!
After Jack formed in 2011, fusing bluegrass, gospel and folk elements. Through expressive songwriting, captivating vocals and a unique take on traditional mountain music, they create a modern sound with a distinctly old-time energy. After Jack consists of Mary Allison, Emily Blankenship-Tucker, and Rachel Blankenship-Tucker. The band takes its name from the hero of beloved mountain folk-tales, whose quick thinking and good fortune always brought him out on top.
Born and raised in the two Virginias, Sarah White is a songwriter who might resemble some kind of Hazel Dickens/Patti Smith/Cat Power love child. Her catalog offers an eclectic blend of driving folk-rock, sorrowful country ballads and experimental, personal narrative songs -- the trifecta that defines her lengthening body of work.
catherine the great is the solo project of Catherine Backus, formerly half of Athens, GA duo the Skipperdees. A winner of the 2017 Merlefest Chris Austin Songwriting Contest, Catherine draws comparisons to Kathleen Edwards, Lori McKenna, and Gillian Welch.
