The CYSO Chamber and Symphony Orchestras, under the direction of Julien Benichou, will host renowned violinist Stefan Jackiw and clarinetist, Yoonah Kim in concert at St Johns College, Francis Scott Key Auditorium on February 17, 2018.
The Chamber Orchestra is in its first year and is comprised of high school students and university students studying instrumental performance. The ensemble has already performed with professional musicians such as violinist Kurt Nikkanen, flutist Jean Ferrandis, and violinist Amos Fayette. They have recently performed at the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C. and in the Festival Du Vigan, Festival De Chaillol in France as well as a performance in Severna Park, MD.
The Symphony Orchestra is comprised of high school students from Central Maryland, and twice they have been invited to play at Carnegie Hall. The orchestra has played in side-by-side concerts with the St Petersburg State Symphony in St Petersburg, Russia and locally with the Londontown Symphony Orchestra. CYSO plans tours abroad for older students; they have played concerts in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, France, Italy, Russia, Ireland and Canada.
Over the years, CYSO members have had the opportunity to work and perform with many talented professionals, including Ray Still, former principal oboe of the Chicago Symphony; internationally acclaimed french horn virtuoso Barry Tuckwell; New York City Ballet concertmaster Kurt Nikkanen, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's Jonathan Carney (concertmaster), Christian Colberg (viola) and Ray Hernandez (trumpet). Our Symphony performed Beethoven's triple concerto with internationally renowned Stefan Jackiw (violin), David Requiro (cello) and Anna Polonsky (piano).
