ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS February 7, 2018
CHRIS KELLY & NICOLE GIBSON Now based in Vancouver, Chris Kelly and Nicole Gibson met in Montreal, at a merch table while both fronting their own bands. They began collaborating by making duo versions of popular songs on YouTube. After acquiring over a quarter million views on their videos and over half a million plays on Sound Cloud they realized the potential in writing their own original music. Their first song, 'Out of The Dark', was released in April 2017 and was a finalist in several international songwriting competitions. They then self-released their debut EP Out of the Dark single by single. We write whenever we feel inspired by a certain event, a person, an emotion or just life in general, whatever triggers a song. www.kellyandgibson.com
EDITH WALLACE Transplanted to Canada from Scotland as a teenager, Edith Wallace finally settled on British Columbias West Coast after several years in Alberta. A prolific songwriter, her songs have never been easily categorized; theyre a little bit folk, a little bit pop, a little bit adult contemporary. But there are common threads: Ediths passionate, memorable voice, and her compelling ability to find truth, beauty and humour in the travails of every-day life. All this is true of her fourth album of original songs: First Bloom, a double album that reveals an added helping of personal courage, and hard-won clarity of artistic vision. Edith tours across North America and has performed in Japan, Australia and Europe. www.edithwallacemusic.com
LUKE WALLACE Folk musician and activist Luke Wallace believes that music and story are some of humanitys most powerful tools; he has seen firsthand their ability to inspire a shift in individuals and communities attitudes. Luke uses his music as a platform to amplify the voices of communities threatened by resource extraction, and to contribute to the growing revolution spreading around the world. Luke hails from Vancouver but his "folktivism" has taken him far and wide: to France for COP21, Costa Rica where he represented his coast at a climate change conference, and all through Canadas west coast and interior. Luke is a part of "Come To Life Music", an artist-led music collective that utilizes musicians' voices to inspire change for humanity and the planet. www.lukewallacemusic.com
SHARI ULRICH (Host / Producer) Shari's 45-year career from Pied Pumkin through The Hometown Band and on as a solo artist and multi-instrumentalist has led to 23 albums, including collaborations with Bill Henderson and Roy Forbes (UHF), Barney Bentall & Tom Taylor (BTU), and the bluegrass band The High Bar Gang. Her work has garnered several Juno Award nominations and two awards, induction into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame, and a 2014 Canadian Folk Music Award for English Songwriter of the Year. Her passion for songwriters sharing a stage has lead her to produce the Bluebird North and SongBird North series for the SAC for over 21 years, both locally and nationally. www.shariulrich.com
