FLAMENCO NIGHTS @ GALERIA WEST Music & Dance Concert Event with Acclaimed Spanish Guitarist Pedro Cortes & Guest Artists !
The popular FLAMENCO NIGHTS @ GALERIA WEST concert series returns on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 7:30pm to the Galeria West Art & Music Gallery, located at 111 Quimby Street in downtown Westfield, NJ. This special and authentic concert event features an exciting evening of Flamenco Puro celebrating the best of this internationally popular music & dance genre.
Come join with in-demand Spanish flamenco guitarist Pedro Cortes, accomplished musician J.Q. Whitcomb on trumpet & flugelhorn, acclaimed singer & dancer La Conja and dancer Rebeca Tomas of the A Palo Seco dance company of NYC.
Pedro Cortes comes from a family of Spanish gypsy guitarists and began his studies with his father and the esteemed Flamenco guitarist Sabicas. Having toured professionally since the age of 17, he has gained international recognition as a soloist and composer. He premiered his work "En la oscuridad de las minas" at the Teatro Albeniz in Madrid, and in 1992 he had works premiered by the Carlota Santana Spanish Dance Company at the Joyce Theater in New York. He has written two books on flamenco, El Dron del Faraon and Cruzando el Charco, published by the American Institute of Guitar. He toured with the great Jose Greco and Maria Benitez, and has performed with such artists as Farrucita, La Tati and others. As covered in detail in a recent New Yorker magazine article, Mr. Cortes is a third generation in demand Flamenco guitarist and uses the experience passed down to him by his family to maintain the purity of Flamenco while creating new compositions.
Teatro Sí presents 10 monthly concert performances of passionate flamenco music and dance for flamenco aficionados during each annual season. Along with special diverse guest artists, the experience reveals the pure emotional essence of this popular Iberian music and dance form. Together they celebrate the expressive flamenco as it takes on a new character and exposes the audience to the warmth of the human spirit as expressed through music and dance. The body movements and the facial expressions of the dancers join with the artistry of the musicians and singers to create a spectacle that is a treat for both the eye and the soul. Come experience an evening of Spanish gypsy culture with the cast of this captivating music and dance celebration!
Tickets are priced at $25 for adults and $15 for children. Reservations and more information are also available by calling the Teatro Sí box office at 908-301-9496 or purchase in person at Galeria West Art & Music Gallery. Also enjoy the fine art exhibition at Galeria West Art & Music Gallery of works by various local & international artists. We recommend planning on a fine meal or dessert at one of many fine restaurants in quaint downtown Westfield and the surrounding area before or after the show.
Event proceeds benefit ongoing programming efforts at TEATRO Si, a 501(c)3 not for profit organization.
