Jangala
Saturday, March 10 2:30 pm
Rawley T. Farnsworth Theater Skyline High School 12250 Skyline Blvd. Oakland, CA 94619
A family-friendly performance inspired by Rudyard Kiplings The Jungle Book.
Fusing contemporary ballet with south Indian classical bharatanatyam dance, Jangala follows the story of Mowgli, a lost boy who is adopted by a pack of wolves and must use his wits to survive in the wild.
Artistic Director Graham Lustigs version of Kiplings classic tale is set in an urban city, complete with disco nightclubs, construction sites, and junkyards inhabited by feral dogs and features an all Indian music score including classical ragas, bhangra, and folkloric music from across India.
Created in collaboration with master bharatanatyam dancer and teacher Renuku Srinivasan of the Tala Shruti Dance School, Jangalas combination of classical Indian dance and modern ballet, makes this an exciting and innovative performance that is enjoyable for adults and children alike.
Jangala will also feature performances by Nadhi Thekkek and Nava Dance Theater.
Seating is general admission for all shows and is on a first come first serve basis. VIP package purchasers will be seated in a special VIP section.
Accommodations will be made for any special needs.
