Songwriters on Stage
Each month, the Maine Songwriters' Association presents Songwriters on Stage, a showcase of some of the best songwriters Maine has to offer. The show typically features three seasoned performers and an emerging songwriter to kick the evening off. It's an opportunity for listeners to discover new music or come hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. The October concert will feature Geneviève Beaudoin,Tim Shannon, andGiff Jamison, with emerging songwriter,Luke Kalloch.
Luke Kalloch: The Loblolly Boy is the musical vehicle of songwriter Luke Kalloch. After growing up writing songs in his native state of Maine, Kalloch toured the country playing his music before settling in Austin, TX were he further honed his songwriting into what his fellow musicians came to call Bummer Folk. Kallochs songs are steeped in sorrow, full of characters that are out of luck, complex, flawed, and, sometimes, just downright miserable. Somehow, through this veil of sadness, a glimmer of hope pokes through the plot of each song, leaving the listener misty eyed but wanting a little more. Geneviève Beaudoin: New Spine is the latest project by Portland-based singer-songwriter, Geneviève Beaudoin. A balancing act of intimate folk melodies and alt-country appeals, Beaudoin's music sets its sights on the raw and tender. You can learn more about her work at www.newspinemusic.com.
Tim Shannon: I think life is a classroom and I like to write about the things I struggle with, learn and enjoy. Musically I like to challenge myself to make each song sound almost entirely different than the last. I like to combine acoustic guitar and "in the moment" looped rhythms to bring out the song's uniqueness.
Giff Jamison: Originally from Minnesota and now a Maine-based songwriter and performer, Giffs playing draws from folk, jazz and rock influences but his roots are country blues and finger style guitar. Dreams make their way into his songs and empty prairies, slow rolling rivers, and lost travelers all find a place in his music. He is a 4-time finalist at the New England Songwriters Contest and a finalist in the 2017 Maine Songwriters Association Songwriting Contest. In 2013 he released Ramone, a CD of 11 self-penned songs recorded at Frog Hollow Studio in Brunswick. A new CD is being planned mostly in his head but with more actual visits to the studio coming up. Giff performs throughout the Mid Coast as a solo artist and in the company of fellow songwriters and musicians. http://www.giffjamison.com http://www.reverbnation.com/giffjamison
