Madame X: A Burlesque Fantasy
The Overtime Theater and TacoTown Theatre Company proudly present the world premiere production of Madame X: A Burlesque Fantasy, a burlesque play about portraitist John Singer Sargents most famous work. This comedic, adult-themed narrative is written, directed and choreographed by international burlesque artist Jade Esteban Estrada and features award-winning burlesque star Coco Lectric. The four-performance run will be presented at 8:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays from February 2-10, 2018 at The Overtime Theater located at 5409 Bandera Road, Suite 205 in San Antonio, Texas. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance/$25 at the door. Limited seating. Reservations recommended. Tickets can be purchased online at madamex.bpt.me. During a gentle age soon to be known as La Belle Époque, John Singer Sargent (Jade Esteban Estrada) is a successful artist who makes his living painting commissioned portraits of celebrities and high-ranking members of the Parisian aristocracy. One day, after encountering a young, beautiful socialite by the name of Madame Pierre Gautreau (Coco Lectric), he passionately begins a quest to paint her captivating image. When the piece is finally complete, hes convinced that it will be hailed as his greatest masterpiece. However, the controversial reception of his portrait at the prestigious Paris Salon unexpectedly results in a social scandal, a rejection of the work and, eventually, the artists ruin. How the painting and its maker rose from the ashes is arguably one of the most dramatic stories of the art world. Through dance theatre, comedy and song, Estrada retells the story of John Singer Sargents still vividly remembered portrait of a woman known today as simply Madame X.
Half variety show, half musical and all entertainment, Madame X: A Burlesque Fantasy is the sixth burlesque play written by Jade Esteban Estrada. Past credits include Sinderella and the Glass Zipper, How Burlesque Saved Christmas, Tales of a Hard Nut (a burlesque adaptation of The Nutcracker), The Masque of the Red Death and Eat Me ( a burlesque adaptation of Alices Adventures in Wonderland). Estrada is the former playwright-in-residence of Terrible Enfants Theatre Company in Houston, Texas and currently a guest director at The Overtime Theater.
The show stars Jade Esteban Estrada, Essence Grant, Prissy Love and international burlesque star Coco Lectric in the title role.
