The House Beautiful I: Anne-Marie O'Connor
Author Anne-Marie O'Connor speaks in conjunction with the publication of her new book, "The Lady in Gold," a suspenseful tale of Gustav Klimt's 1907 masterpiece Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer, one of the most emblematic portraits of its time. Learn of the beautiful, seductive Viennese Jewish salon hostess who sat for it; the notorious artist who painted it; the now vanished turn-of-the-century Vienna that shaped it; and the strange twisted fate that befell it following its seizure by the Nazis during World War II.
A writer for The Washington Post, O'Connor is a veteran foreign correspondent and culture writer. Her articles have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Esquire, The Nation, and The Christian Science Monitor.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing at a reception following the lecture.
