Guitars of the East & West - Aaron Larget-Caplan & Hiroya Tsukamoto
International performing artists and guitarists Aaron Larget-Caplan and Hiroya Tsukamoto come together for an exotic exploration of musical styles and traditions in their program Guitars of the East & West. This one-day only program is at 4pm at the intimate Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater. The concert will be in two parts with each artist solo: Hiroya will perform original and Japanese folk compositions on a steel string guitar, and Aaron will explore classical works by Bach, and composers from Japan, India, Russia, and the United States for nylon string guitar.
Aaron Larget-Caplan is a virtuoso guitarist, multi-faceted performer, and recording artist whose programs blur the lines of classical traditions, mixing contemporary and standard repertoire into innovative and unique musical experiences. The American Record Guide called his performance fascinating, and the Boston Musical Intelligencer noted Aarons astounding technical proficiency and artistic delicacy. Aaron is based in Boston, and this is his second appearance at Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater, performing last in June 2017.
Steel string guitarist Hiroya Tsukamoto is an innovative composer and guitarist who fuses folk, jazz, and world music into intoxicating programs. Originally from Kyoto, Japan, he currently lives in NYC and tours throughout the country. Utilizing electronic looping technologies in his performances, Hiroyas concerts offer a unique mix of eclectic stories and original music.
We are very excited to perform together in short NW tour in Oregon and Washington, says Aaron. Though we both lived and studied in Boston, our guitar and musical traditions are quite different. I started on electric guitar and moved to classical, and Hiroya started on banjo before moving to guitar. He also writes his own music, while I interpret a composers written notes.
Ironically, says Hiroya, Aarons most recent CD (Legend of Hagoromo) is based on a Japanese theme. I even know the Japanese myth that inspired the title track. We didnt plan it, but though we are different in many ways, we are complimentary to each other. Music is Music is Music. We look forward to an exciting concert in Snohomish!
