Judy Banker and Bill Edwards
Rooted in 60s folk and vintage country, Ann Arbor songwriter, singer, and acoustic guitarist Judy Banker explores traditional roots musical territory and intricately makes it her own. Taking cues from country heroes Loretta Lynn to Gillian Welch, her songwriting is intensely personal, sharing warm love songs, lamentations, and narratives that dig deep into the universality of her own life experiences. Though new to recording, with 2014s debut Without You and 2016s Devils Never Cry, Judy has long been a part of the Ann Arbor music scene. She has performed with Michigan songwriting legend, Jay Stielstra, for nearly a decade and more recently in projects with other songwriter friends, including Bill Edwards and Ed Dupas.
Bill Edwards is both a master of the songwriting craft as well as a seasoned and compelling performer.
Having started his career in the singer-songwriter scene in Buffalo, NY in the 70s, his journey has led him through bluegrass to country-rock, back to singer-songwriter and most recently to classic country. He claims Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell as formative influences, and says hes most at home in the rich fields theyve tilled so ably.
All along the way, the constant has been songwriting. Bill won the Country division of Billboards® national songwriting contest and his songs have been recorded by other artists and featured on TV and on the silver screen. Hes held staff-writer positions in Nashville and studied the craft at the feet of masters.
Bill can more than hold his own with both acoustic and electric guitar, and sings with an expressive voice that brings his songs to life like no one elses. Years of shows for audiences small and large have honed his performance skills, whether solo, with his trio or with the six-piece Bill Edwards Band. Bill says that songs should move your heart or move your feet, or even better, both. Give him a listen. We think youll find yourself moved.
