David Earl & The Ploughshares
David Earl Tomlinson is among Asheville, North Carolina's more soulful singers and performers. Cutting his teeth as the token white guy singing gospel in the Kuumba and David Band, David Earl quickly gained a reputation as one to watch.
As the Kuumba and David Band gave way to The Plowshares the focus switched to David Earl's very strong original material. The 2008 EP 'Local Anesthesia' was rated the 17th favorite regional release by the listeners of the local NPR station WNCW, and the band was among performers featured in a 2009 Summer primer of bands not to miss in WNC Magazine.
After a short hiatus David Earl is back with an extended original rock and roll setlist and band with phenomenal talent and experience.
The Gypsy Swingers
The Gypsy Swingers is an up tempo jazz group now a quintet playing in a style reminiscent of the European acoustic swing jazz scene started by Django Reinhardt in the '30s. Although they play with more vocals and different arrangements of the standard tunes, they try to adhere to the basic feel of this exciting style of music without trying to be rigid in the interpretation. The band features guitar, stand-up bass, clarinet, flute and sometimes mandolin and violin. They also mix in a host of Latin tunes such as bossa novas and rumbas. Its a music that comes from a passion for making people feel so good they want to get up and dance.
Regular band members include Mario Piccolo (guitar/vocals), Bohne Forsberg (bass), Wendi Loomis (clarinet/flute/vocals), and Sean Mabe (rhythm guitar) . and the sultry voice of singer/songwriter Alina (aka Lady Q).
