RENT STRIKE: IX (Album Release)
RENT STRIKE is bringing their album IX to the Robin Theatre on Friday, March 2nd, with a half punk show, half stage production weird pseudo-gala evening event.
RENT STRIKE is the musical project of Lansing-born John Warmb. Since 2011, John has been performing his brand of lyric-driven acoustic punk rock on street corners, in bars and in basements, growing and developing a distinctive sound and writing style. Tonight, and for now, John is joined on the stage by friends and comrades Dakota Peterson and Nicole Geller, plus support from other talent.
As an album, IX draws from many disparate traditions. The nine songs flow both in style and in sound, from raucous and harmony-laden to dissonant and unsettling, while following a cohesive narrative based around JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Listeners have described IX as something 'nobody asked for' and 'better than it has any right to be'.
Attendees of this release show will be provided with a short zine containing the lyrics to the nine songs that will be performed, accompanied by illustrations from local artists. Copies of the CD and zine will be available for a small donation on the day of, alongside light refreshments and other RENT STRIKE paraphernalia.
Doors are at 7:30, music will start at 8:00. Opening the show is Lonely Arms, followed directly by RENT STRIKE. Ticketing will be limited to 85 seats, with additional standing room tickets sold at the door on the day of the event.
