Daimh - Gaelic Supergroup
Note: Tickets are still available at the door tonight.
Authentic Gaelic music with a modern edge and a magnificent range of expression!
This Gaelic Supergroup and unchallenged champions of straight-in-the-eye Highland music come from the West Lochaber area and Isle of Skye in Scotland.
Formed around the turn of the century, Daimh (pronounced Dive) take their name from the Gaelic word for "kinship". Scots Trad Music Awards selected Daimh as the 2015 Folk Band of the Year. They also won 2015 Best Folk Band in Europe in the Folkherbst Competition.
Angus MacKenzie and Gabe McVarish remain the lead instrumental force with a reputation as giants of the Bagpipe and Fiddle. Fellow founding member Ross Martin provides an underpinning groove on Guitar. They are joined by "new guy" Murdo "Yogi" Cameron on Mandola and Accordion to complete the instrumental line up.
Daimh has worked with some of the finest Gaelic singers in Scotland and is currently joined with the rapidly rising star in the Gaelic firmament, Ellen Macdonald on vocals.
The Sunday Herald review: "Love, life, loss and Lochaber; Tuneship displays the growing maturity of a group whose work screams of place but which is rooted firmly in the present."
BPT ticket sales close at 12:30 PM on Sunday Feb 18. Door opens at 6:30PM.
Presented by Slighe nan Gàidheal, a non-profit educational society that teaches and promotes the Scottish Gaelic language and culture in the Pacific Northwest.
